Today I am going to be speaking about hypnosis and in particular some of the common misconceptions and myths that surround it. There is much debate between scientists and hypnotists as to whether or not hypnosis is actually real. Scientists rightfully argue that no concrete evidence has been found to suggest hypnosis exists. While this is true the same theory can be applied to a lot of things in life, not just hypnosis. One of the main myths that surround hypnosis is that when you wake up from your hypnotised state you won’t remember anything from while you were hypnotised. This is totally false in very rare cases a side effect of hypnosis can be amnesia but this is very rare. In many cases it is in the hands of the hypnotist how much you remember when they bring you back from your hypnotised state. The Most Common Hypnosis Myths. Some people believe that while they are hypnotised it will help them with their memory, especially if the event they are trying to remember happened recently. However research has proved the exact opposite. For the reasons which I spoke about higher up hypnosis can cause loss of memory rather than helping it. Most of these rumours have been started by the media. Another common myth is that hypnosis can be used to gain an athletic edge. This is another myth which thanks to the media has been over hyped and exaggerated. This can take a viral effect, if one famous sports person turns to hypnosis everyone starts doing it because they think that the experts are doing it for a reason and they must follow. The reality is that hypnosis cannot make people any stronger, it is impossible. There are a lot of things that hypnosis can be use for however. The most common reason for people turning to hypnosis is for weight loss reasons. If someone is on a diet and avoiding sugary snacks it is natural for them to want the sweet tasting foods that they miss. This leads them to hypnosis in the hope it will help them fight off their cravings. The most common hypnosis skill which is used is called conversational hypnosis. The days of a ball on a string swinging in front of someone are long gone. Conversational hypnosis is applied by speaking to people softly and in a way that will influence people’s minds. Some of the expert hypnotists occasionally appear on TV demonstrating their amazing skills on the general public and they’re very good at what they do. There are currently several different conversational hypnosis courses being sold throughout the Internet. Some of them are very informative for beginners and with the correct amount of dedication to learning a complete newbie can grow to an intermediate level of hypnosis skills. Unfortunately because there is a market for these kinds of courses it has also paved the way for some bogus products from people that are looking to make some quick money from a hungry market.
